Dec 22, 2008 - I don't think you understand the causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Middle East is not like a pie, to be divided up sufficiently betwen ethnic groups, nor is the loss of Palestine a way to pay war reparations to the victims of the Holocaust. To attribute the conflict to ancient tensions between the two religions is to perpetuate a lie; there is no fundamental hate between Jews and Muslims.

Dec 22, 2008 - Sorry - lame word limit. Anyway, the only source of conflict is the land taken from Palestinians--Muslims AND Christians--and he apartheid they've been placed under. It's not about pride, dignity, ancient tensions, anger, revenge, or meaningless squabble. It's about, purely and simply, opression. Palestinians were forced unfairly from their homes. Their farms, livestock, and homes were destroyed or occupied.

Dec 22, 2008 - They were robbed of their freedoms and human rights, protected by international law. So there really is no truth to the claim that this conflict is all about ethnic hate: Palestinians lost their land, livelihood, and rights. If you're really interested in the situation, you should really read a bit more about the sources of the conflict. It's hard to find nonbiased sources (and I think I fell into a bias myself--sorry),but a good place to start is Arabs and Israel by Ron David.

Dec 22, 2008 - I'm TOTALLY rambling now, but last thing, I promise: In Iraq, where my grandmother lived, she had two Jewish families living on her street, who were perfectly content with their lives in Iraq and who were free to practice their religion, no questions asked. They weren't opressed in the Middle East like they were in Europe. By your logic, Germany should have given up 55% of its territory to pay reparations to the Jews after the Holocaust--but that would be ridicuous, wouldn't it?
