It is strange that most people cannot appreciate the perfect performance and the positive meaning of the song without thinking necessary of the ideology of that time. Wagner is beautiful even though his music has been adopted by Nazi propaganda. You cannot blame a work of art for the uses others make of it. Anyway, great music, makes me think of my early childhood.

Jun 25, 2008 - kids used to respect teachers 20 years ago everywhere, not just in the USSR. This is a problem of all Westernized countries, has nothing to do with the "old good Soviet times".

Nov 28, 2008 - Not so sure. Teachers had more power over kids - true. But in my year - even in primary school majority of kids hated our teacher 'cos she was shouting most of the time. She wasn't too bad though - teacher used to hit kids in 1b, parallel class. When we grew up a bit, teenagers, i mean, it was actually cool to disrespect teachers in every way, most of the teachers, there were good guys too. What i'm trying to say is that it wasn't all rosy in Soviet schools, far from it.
