Jun 16, 2007 - jaystpp is right. you are delusional if you believe bush is not an idiot. he is a puppet that was played so well by cheney and wolfowitz. as for the Senate, how do you tactfully say "oh, sorry to destroy your country -- we didn't mean to do that" the politicians have chosen the easier route -- silence.
banditosyanquis Says:
Jun 16, 2007 - you should check out the suicide letter of Colonel Ted Westhusing. He was one of Petraeus' subordinates. He didn't seem to think to highly of the guy.
Forgemccain Says:
Aug 2, 2007 - Bandito, what international law are you talking about? Seriously, what body of law are you quoting, I'd like to look it up.
banditosyanquis Says:
Aug 2, 2007 - The Geneva Convention has a slew of rules for occupied territories. Also, the U.S. Army Field Manual lays it out pretty well..."The authority of the legitimate power having in fact passed into the hands of the occupant, the latter shall take all the measures in his power to restore, and ensure, as far as possible, public order and safety..."
Forgemccain Says:
Aug 2, 2007 - Well that's nifty, but the Geneva Convention is a treaty, and well the Army manual is.. well a manual.. neither are international law.
Forgemccain Says:
Aug 2, 2007 - Leaving aside the fact that there is more than one Geneva Convention, I assume your referring to the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War. Are specifically applicable to prisoners of war and nothing else. Read it.
banditosyanquis Says:
Aug 5, 2007 - HA! More rationalization. Last I checked, we are signatories to the Geneva Conventions. If you don't believe the Geneva Conventions are not international law, you need a refresher course in history.
Forgemccain Says:
Aug 6, 2007 - its a treaty, not a law imposed by some international body. History shmistory you need to learn international treaty standards and factual politics. Even if you take the GC as law, please direct me to the treaty sections governing the security of controlled territory (not prisoners)
banditosyanquis Says:
Aug 7, 2007 - I already did. if you don't want to believe that we have broken international law, then you're another one of those people like the Germans in the late 30's. Oblivious.
Forgemccain Says:
Aug 12, 2007 - You posted me a quote from the field army manual (i.e. pg 363) Nice, but the army field manual isn't international law. Again I challenge you to find a bit of any treaty that would include this situation that also governs us. You aren't going to find it in the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners. So either find me the international treaty in question or change the framework of your argument.
Forgemccain Says:
Aug 12, 2007 - Keep in mind, I'm not arguing that security isn't our responsibility at some level. I'm disputing any notion of international treaty (which you confuse with law) requiring any such thing. The fact that we self require it (via the Army policy) ins't the same thing at all.
Forgemccain Says:
Aug 12, 2007 - "Germans in the late 30's" One step short of Godwin. ^_^ nice
banditosyanquis Says:
Aug 19, 2007 - Karl Rove recently justified the occupation by citing UN resolutions. So what does the former secretary general say about the war? In a BBC interview, Kofi Annan said the war was "not in conformity with the Security Council, with the U.N. charter." When asked, "It was illegal?," Annan replied: "Yes, if you wish," adding: "I have indicated it is not in conformity with the U.N. Charter; from our point of view and from the Charter point of view, it was illegal."
