The F-18 was able to exploit this to his liking and get a good shot on the other pilot. If this was a long range Missile engagement, The MIGS have the range advantage and also the "stealth" advantage *ability to have a missile lock without warning the target* but the F-18 will still come out in close quarters with the Sparrows.

Jan 2, 2009 - Okay...to correct all the internet posturing, the Swiss AF F-18s are far beyond the MiG-29Gs the Luftwaffe inherited from East Germany, especially with the latest avionics upgrades to their aircraft. T:W is a slight advantage for the F-18, and the range on a 29G will be about 2/3 that of the F-18, and easily, the MiG has a larger RCS than the Hornet Finally, most of it is pilot skill. the Swiss AF train very hard, and would win against pretty much any AF that tried to penetrate their airspace.

In opration desert storm there are reports of a pair of Hornets engaging I believe were Iraqi Mig-23's and downing both, while carrying a full load of bombs and external tanks, Also anyone whose seen the Blue Angels will know of the Hornet's agility, but you can't compare them unless they go through the same moves side by side

Jan 8, 2009 - Nope sorry, but you know nothing!I bought a official book of the SAF!This was a official training between the german airforce and the Swiss airforce.They made several trainings and they found out, that the Hornet is a top moderne fighter aircraft and it can fight allmost every other fighterjet. In most of the fights in the mountains the mig 29 was to unmanouvable to fight the hornet! I don't know why most of the poeple think the hornet is an old jet which isn't good enough anymore
