Jun 30, 2008 - They travelled on flying scooters, as it was hard to make the puppets appear to walk in a natural fashion. Genius solution!!!

Jul 19, 2008 - Great to see XL5 is on YouTube. My parents bought a model of the XL5 for me for Christmas. I got a grey copy my cousin got a lame red copy of the XL5. It detached and came with figures. I saw an original boxed copy in a NY collector toy store about 9 years ago. They wanted $200 for it. I wasn't nostalgic or rich enough to buy it.

scotpens Says:

Aug 4, 2008 - Maybe you can't see them in this low-quality video, but when I saw these shows back in the 1960s, the puppet strings were definitely visible in some shots.

scotpens Says:

Aug 5, 2008 - That's also the reason why the characters in "Thunderbirds" had ingenious ways of getting into their vehicles. Lots of moving sidewalks, elevators, chutes, slides and tubes. Anything so they wouldn't have to show the puppets walking!

Sep 10, 2008 - Yes, there were strings visible, but not all the time. In fact, there are hardly any times you can see them. I have the series on DVD. It's a great show and my favourite Supermarionation series.

Dec 21, 2008 - In 1963 at age 6, the combination of watching the Mercury Space program and Fireball XL5 forever captivated me into the worlds of science fact and science fiction well into the real future of the 21st century. Back then that stirring Barry Gray background music easily heighten the senses...
