Dec 29, 2008 - With this whole "real Hip Hop" debate I have a question to some of you people. Do you define a song being real hip hop based on it's message or it's lyrical quality. I can see some,if not a lot really don't have a answer they just assume anything from 80's - 90's is "real hip hop" and when thats the case your dealing with someone with lack of knowledge who is just jumping on the bandwagon. But seriously someone willing to answer my question? anyways great song...classic.

Dec 30, 2008 - I agree with you 100% It is a shame people aren't giving Kanye his doe. The dude actually comes up with some deep lyrics. People need to get his first three albums and check them out and listen to his lyrics. I haven't heard"80's and heartbreak, but I have the CD and just haven't listened to it yet. I went through the CD and tried to listen to it but I really couldn't give it my full attention because I was driving half way through my city trying to make it to my cousin's house for Xmas.

Dec 30, 2008 - Why do you say he is overrated when no one has given him credit to begin with? I agree with you about Lil Wayne though. It's not hard to call yourself a king when you don't have any competition. I'll just say this though. Eminem is going to make Wayne his bitch next year.

rapteddy8 Says:

Dec 30, 2008 - The reason why I say Lil Wayne is overrated is because he is. He had a ghostwriter for his best lyrical albums and when people found out and got angry he started to do his own shit and true heads realized how wack he really is. Lil Wayne also has about 170 million profile views on myspace while other real rappers out before him and out now like Jedi Mind Tricks, Apathy, Celph Titled, Tupac, Nas, Kool G Rap, Gang Starr and all these people that have more talent barely have a few million at most.

Dec 30, 2008 - I think it's a lot of things for me personally that classifies something as "true hip-hop". Lyrics for one obviously, is there a message, is the artist REALLY an artist (this goes back to lyrics). Does the artist come off as trying to contribute to hip hop? Is the artist rapping about something he has knowledge of? All these things. For me it just seems that anything that is too popular isn't really hip hop. Of course there are exceptions. Sad that most of these younguns never heard of a primo o
