Panic DisorderThis disorder is marked by the presence of repeated panic attacks: sudden feelings of terror that appear with physical symptoms like rapid heartbeat, sweating, palpitations, shortness of breath as if suffocating, dizzy or light-headedness, numbness or tingling in the extremities, nausea, and visual distortions. During these attacks sufferers often fear they will have a heart attack, faint, lose control, go crazy, or even die. The attacks begin to subside within 10 minutes but anxiety usually persists longer. Some of the attacks appear "out of the blue" which leads to a generalized fear of more attacks, but some situations may reliably trigger the attacks. Over time, people often begin to avoid the situations where they have experienced previous attacks. This can develop into Agoraphobia, an avoidance of situations from which escape may be difficult. As this disorder grows it can become severely disabling often limiting people's abilities to travel or even leave their homes. The good news is that panic disorder is highly treatable. With medications, cognitive behavioral therapy, or both, the sufferer is soon on the way to recovery.Remember you are never alone.

Dec 2, 2008 - I had a panic attack a month or two ago at my friend's house. It just came out of nowhere. I didn't go to the doctor for it because it was a one-time thing. If it happens again, I'll go, but I know that they're brought on by stress and the things I'm dealing with in my life right now.

Dec 2, 2008 - I've had a few panic attacks, although I don't think I'd call it panic disorder for me. It doesn't happen often enough that I live in fear of it happening again. But when I feel like I'm in a situation that might cause one, I take this natural remedy called "Rescue Remedy" and it calms me down enough that I think I can prevent it.

Dec 3, 2008 - Thanks so much for this video. It's great to know that I'm not alone. My friends and family try to be nice but they really don't understand what I'm going through and why.

Dec 5, 2008 - I hadn't had panic attacks for years and now they are creeping back on me. I could fight them off with rational thought but they're slowly coming back. I lost 15 pounds because I'm afraid to eat too much salt and other irrational stuff. I can actually summon an attack or palpation just by thinking about it.

Dec 5, 2008 - I've had to live with these for nearly two years - it's sheer Hell. You wake up feeling sick, you feel nauseous, I experience weakness in my legs, palpitations, feel dizzy and am terrified I'm going to faint/die - it's just bloody awful. Have been trying the Lindon Method which has been helpful and changing thought patterns (instead of thinking I'm going to have a heart attack/cancer etc) - Dr refuses to give medication so I have found exercise/diet/meditation to work wonders. Great vid!
garycalgary Says:
Dec 6, 2008 - i refuse medication. I hate them but I know what triggers them. I think it's a genetic disorder that is just hardwired in the brain. So I do things to learn to control the anxiety because i know myself wellWhat I hate is the randomness because sometimes a trigger will be fine and other times it will detonate sometgubg severe.

Dec 31, 2008 - A lot of people have occasional panic attacks in their lifetime. It is when they are recurrent (past occasional) and (usually) with a fear of having constant fear of another one is when you have panic disorder. I know how you feel though, I had those many times, scary as hell. Glad you are fighting through it.

Jan 8, 2009 - Im a 37 yr old male that has had panic attacks since I was 20. I was scared to death for the first few yrs and made many trips to the er and usually felt better while there. I felt like a fool. If it werent for a friend that had them worse than I then I would have never come to terms with them and learn to see im not dying. Lights, places ive had attacks and caffine are some of my triggers also. not running to pills and dealing with them has made them easier to deal with. Thanks for reading.

Nov 24, 2008 - Alejandrohx, Try counseling, herbal, acupuncture, if it doesn't see a psychiatrist for med. I tried lexapro, wellbutrin, effexsor, cymbalta, and buspar. But zoloft cured me. There's lots of med out there, you just have to find the one that will work for you.
