Jun 12, 2007 - The problem with the smart car is not the rigidity and crumple zones, its the mass, or lack thereof... you hit anything with substantially greater mass and the g-shock is going to be far greater in the Smartcar... that is what would kill you. The lack of large crumple zones to dissapate energy (relying more on the rigidity of the shell) makes matters worse. At least they point this out in the video.
